About Nordic Pharma

Right here in Tromsø, in the Arctic Capital of Norway, situated at 69° north, between majestic mountains and beautiful fjords, under the midnight sun and beckoning northern lights, lies Nordic Pharma. Tromsø’s boreal climate of snowy winters and cool summers is optimal for both the production and storage of fish oil.

Like Nordic Naturals, Nordic Pharma is wholly owned by the Opheim family. Our technically advanced, state-of-the-art facility opened in 2014 and has expanded several times since then to meet the growing demand for our family-run brand of high-quality omega-3 fish oil, utilizing the latest technology and processes to guarantee that Nordic Naturals’ award-winning omega oils are manufactured in the most efficient, environmentally sound manner possible.

Nordic Naturals is proud to be the #1 selling fish oil brand in the U.S.‡ Our best-selling fish oil formulas include high-intensity omega-3 concentrates, non-concentrated products designed for daily maintenance, targeted omega blends, and much more. Explore our growing assortment of expertly formulated omega-3 products here.

  • Quality Matters

    Nordic Pharma Promise

From ingredient sourcing to sustainable production to shipping, our focus is always superior quality—ensuring the best fish oil.

    Freshness

Oxidation is an important indicator of fish oil quality and freshness. Low oxidation levels can help guard against the formation of free radicals, improve sensory characteristics, and extend shelf life.

From start to finish, our production chain occurs in an oxygen-controlled environment and under strict temperature controls. We add natural antioxidants to the finished product and thoroughly test each individual batch to ensure the best final product.

    Purity

Environmental impurities such as heavy metals and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are carefully removed.

We proactively meet and exceed standards set by the industry for freshness and purity, including:

    • The EU and US Pharmacopoeias
    • The Codex Alimentarius standard
    • The GOED Monograph
    • International Fish Oil Standards (IFOS) 5-star rating standards

For further accountability, our fish oil is then third-party purity tested by an independent laboratory to ensure the highest quality.

    Potency

We ensure that all active ingredient amounts match their values on product labels.

We carefully make our fish oils using fresh, wild-caught fish to deliver triglyceride-form (TG) and re-esterified triglyceride-form (rTG) omega-3s for better absorption and better results.+

+Triglyceride form omega-3s are better absorbed than ethyl ester form omega-3s.

Keeping Oceans Healthy

Friend of the Sea Certified

Nordic Pharma is proudly Friend of the Sea (FOS) certified. FOS is an internationally recognized, non-profit organization and leading certification standard for companies on a similar mission to conserve the global marine habitat.

Processing of the fish and omega-3 oil must be carried out in line with Environment Management System practices and Social Accountability principles, which means:

  • Full traceability back to the fishing boat
  • Minimal use of overexploited fish stock
  • Minimal bycatch of endangered species
  • Total compliance with national regulations for employees
  • Focused on Sustainability

    United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

    Sustainability First

Even though the ocean is blue, our focus is green production. We see it as our duty to protect the environment and engage in the most sustainable production practices possible by utilizing new technologies and innovative alternatives. Our goal is zero waste.

    How We Do It

Our processing technology also allows us to minimize unwanted waste material.

All Nordic Pharma side streams are utilized at the highest possible sustainability level within Norwegian/EU regulative restrictions. Our plant’s energy consumption is essentially based on self-produced biofuel, generated by one of the by-streams after all healthy fatty acids have been utilized. Other side streams are reused in fish feed and used as raw material for biogas production and fertilizer. This entire process, combined with our other daily initiatives, allows us to minimize our eco-footprint dramatically, which is especially important as sustainable omega-3s are rapidly becoming scarce globally.

    The Power of Our People

Our employees are highly skilled and well educated. Additionally, we have established a trainee program for students specializing in chemical and process technology, with the goal of providing opportunities to develop dedicated local labor.

In addition, we participate in several research projects in close collaboration with The Arctic University of Norway and SINTEF, a leading research organization in Europe. We conduct continuous work to improve sustainable production through innovation and research.
